Born Sarah Baker Good, Sally Church was from Lockport, Pennsylvania. She became engaged to Louis Church in 1894, and married him seven years later. One of Sally’s six sisters, Blanche, married a New York lawyer, Charles Tressler Lark. Following the death of her husband, in 1943, Sally Church continued to live at Olana, until her death at age 96. During her final decade, she suffered from dementia, of unknown cause, and was declared mentally incompetent in 1960. Her financial advisor and lawyer was her nephew, Charles T. Lark, Jr. to whom she left the bulk of her estate, including Olana. Throughout the years that she and Louis Church lived in the villa, they kept Frederic and Isabel Church’s belongings intact, modernizing only in some slight respects.
